For the first time in the calendar year, voters have chosen an image captured by Springfield photographer Michael Cignoli as the Ozarks Sports Zone Photo of the Week.

The photograph of a Logan-Rogersville student-athlete dunking during a rivalry game against Springfield Catholic was voted the top photo for the period ending February 6, 2021. The athlete, who has committed to play for Western Illinois, dunked six times as the Wildcats earned a 66-48 conference win.

It’s the fourth time during the 2020-21 school year that one of Cignoli’s pictures has earned the top spot in the weekly poll — and first since the calendar flipped to 2021. His photos of athletes from Marionville, Warsaw and Springfield Catholic also earned the most votes when they were nominated in the fall.

Each week, O-Zone staffers analyze the hundreds of photos captured by their network of photographers and select five finalists for Photo of the Week. The nominees are posted in a poll at OzarksSportsZone.com and website visitors vote to decide the winner.
